Today I answered an email from a client that I mentor. The topic of discussion was mediocrity. I was asked about my thoughts on mediocrity and why average people fail to acquire the same levels of success as high achievers.
It boils down to being consistent at the right things. Average people are average because they lack discipline and persistence to do what’s required to be consistently successful, settling for mediocrity instead.
My thoughts on mediocrity are very clear. I have a huge problem accepting mediocrity as a lifestyle choice. I simply can’t stand people with mediocre mindsets who settle for good enough when they have the ability to be legendary. If you are happy being mediocre and content with doing just enough to get by, cool. Just be aware, I want nothing to do with you…
- Type 1 People – can look around where they are, assess the situation, take initiative, create a list of what needs to be done, and then complete that list in an effective way. Type 1 people become some of the most successful and highest paid. They seek opportunities for risk taking, thinking, planning, and executing.
- Type 2 People – can’t create lists, but can definitely follow them. Type 2 people make good money, but lack consistency to reach the levels of success and wealth of Type 1 people. They seek opportunities for instruction and execution.
- Type 3 People – can’t create lists or follow instructions. Type 3 people are the lowest paid. They seek out simple tasks and favor menial labor.
It is ok to be content no matter what type of person you are. Some people don’t even know other types exist. Why would you question what type of person you are? After all, you have been around the same type of people all your life.
However, being ignorant to what type of person you are has no correlation to the value you create in your life and those around you by your level of success. Your level of effort and persistence will mirror your level of success. The universe pays you for the effort you put towards doing value added things. To see how much value you are delivering to the universe simply look in your wallet. It will tell you exactly how much value you added today.
I believe that you don’t deserve to sleep when you aren’t where you want to be.
Does not being where you want to be make you mad?
Get determined to get where you’re suppose to be. No tv, no partying on weekends, no taking breaks, no sleep until you’re there. Mediocrity will whisper in your ear; you are too busy to have so many responsibilities. You are a victim of a cruel fate that never gives you a break. You are doing the best you can.
The type of person you are comes from your mindset and choices. Living in poverty or living from pay check to paycheck happens directly by your mindset and choices. Working at a dead-end job or ruining your health with drugs happens because of your mindset and choices. You are right where you choose to be.
If you don’t like where you are right now, think about what type of person you want to be, then adjust your mindset and seek out and learn from the type of people you want to be.
